God answers all kinds of prayer.

On Saturday we went to market to buy food for the school. On the way we
were chased and pulled over by Road Safety. Anyone who has been to Nigeria
knows this means long ridiculous discussions about tinted glass permits or
over loading the back seat. Anything they bring up you need to defend or
pay a "fine" on the spot. Not this time... While they looked all around
the truck we, Pastor Bassey his wife Janet, Mr. Chukwuma, Bridget and
myself, quietly prayed. After five to ten minutes the Road Safety officer
walked up to the window and handed me this ticket and bid me a good day.

God is good. All the time.

Evolution? I think not...

To the best of my understanding evolution claims that everything evolves
through a process of selection where as every successive adaptation leads to
a change that give the species a better chance at survival. If that is true
this moth should only be found in the textile markets of northern Nigeria...

OK, son...

(Ben) “Mom, I’m like Caleb.  Two shirts, three pairs of pants.”

“OK, son, but you’ll probably get pretty hot.”

“No, ‘cuz I’m not wearing any underpants.  See, this one is a swimming suit, so no underpants.”

earplugs

Saturday night 8:00.  So thankful that church band practice just ended after two hours and I can take out the earplugs.  My ears are ringing even though I had them plugged IN THE HOUSE!  Church tomorrow should be fun!!

Laughter is good medicine!

Last night we took the screen, projector, generator, and computer out to Babbiyo’s camp and showed everyone pictures we took last week when they were all dressed up for Salat (Muslim holiday).  What a joy it was to see these children and women bouncing up and down and giggling at the sight of themselves! The older boys were very cool, smiling and calmly elbowing each other while everyone shouted their names.  Of course, we couldn’t go just once through the slides.  The second round elicited just as much laughter!  It was certainly worth the mosquito bites!

Juniors vs. Seniors

This guy with no shoes took some BIG hits and falls! The game was fine
until fighting erupted over a call and one guy head butted another in the
nose...

Rainy bed

Jack had to sleep with our big wash tub on his bed because the roof was seriously leaking during a major downpour.  Of course, the leak is way, way back at the end of the house where there is hardly any crawl space between the ceiling tiles and the tin roof.  Devin has been back there several times to try to locate the source – but I guess the rain has to pour in at just the right angle.

Women's Day

We planned and practiced for weeks. We had the uniforms tailored (church
groups do that on Women's Day all over Nigeria). We ordered the church
gift. We cooked up rice, meat, and salad. I got up at 5:30 and prepared
food for a while. And then I got sick and missed the actual Women's Day
service. The nice thing about where my pillow is, however, is that I really
didn't miss a thing. Lying in bed with earplugs, I heard at least 95% of
the service. I even shouted an "Amen" or two from my bed. A few minutes
after everyone finished eating, they came in to my room and prayed for me.
I was really fine by that time, but didn't want to do dishes. Just kidding.
Anyway, here is our group shot!
